CREATIVITY AND SURVIVAL

Recently, it has become excruciatingly apparent that having creative skills are helpful to survival. For example, if you run out of money, but you still need something repaired, it’s a good skill to be able to figure out how to do it with whatever you might have lying around. Being an artist means having the ability to think outside of the box. It is about using what you have to create what you need. Being an artist is not just about painting pretty pictures. It is about transforming reality into something that is functional, beautiful and healthy. It is an ongoing process. It’s about being able to think on your feet, pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, and always seeing that silver lining.

Where does the creative spirit come from? It doesn’t come from having things come easily to you, or planning the future. It doesn’t come from having others always do things for you either. I believe creativity stems from embracing a challenging life. It comes from trusting your intuition, calling upon the unknown and taking risks.

Most creative people fly by the seat of their pants. And many of them can’t see what the future holds. But most creative people are the ones who are able to look at a situation and figure out a solution that will get them to the next step. Being creative isn’t usually comfortable or convenient, but it is truly a gift.

In this world of chaos and turbulence perhaps it is time for the creative people to team up with the conventional thinkers to come up with some workable solutions and ideas.
